Photography Session Styling by Kelley Renee - Savannah Baby and Family Photographer

As a Richmond Hill newborn, family, and maternity photographer my photography style is all about embracing the monochromatic classic and timeless vibes, and let me tell you, it's like turning everyday moments into a timeless masterpiece. Think of it like bringing the classics to the present – black and white just has this magic that makes every shot feel like a snapshot of forever. There's something about stripping away the colors that lets the real emotions and details shine through. It's like the photos are whispering stories to you, you know? Plus, it never goes out of style. I want you to look at these pics in 20 years and still feel that same "wow" factor. It's not just about what's captured; it's about how it makes you feel.

Part of that is what you wear!

Let's talk about the secret to awesome portraits – your wardrobe! Trust me, what you wear can turn a regular picture into an instant classic. Keep it clean, keep it timeless – we're aiming for those "remember this moment forever" vibes. Skip the crazy patterns or designs that make your outfit look like a puzzle gone wrong. Simple is the key! Go for those solid colors that pop but won't steal the show from your pictures. Lucky for you I have a whole post on tips for dressing and styling over here. Also, we love to pull looks like these on Pinterest! Just search for any keywords, even what season your shoot is in, it’s easy to generate some ideas!

Let’s talk about another piece - planning!

Adult sessions are a little easier to plan, but your newborn session requires quite a bit more info before we get started the day of your session. I’m all about making your little one's debut in front of the camera amazing, and the colors and props we use matter.

Prior to your session I’ll send you a questionnaire to get a feel for the colors you’d like for baby, and the aesthetic in your home or nursery so I can ensure your portraits match your style and your walls, should you choose to hang them. Maybe you lean more towards pastels or maybe bold primary colors, or maybe classic jewel tones? Your answers will help me hand-pick the props, textures, wraps, and outfits that'll make your newborn session just perfect. Over the years I have already carefully picked all of my props out specifically because I know they photograph great. And no worries if you're still figuring out your preferable palette – I’m here to make sure your baby's first photo op is a timeless success.

Shooting in your home

This can be trickier than the studio, but is super convenient for my clients. I'm all about capturing those real, unfiltered moments right where they happen – in your home. But shooting in your home means that becomes our palette and background for your session. I will work with you on picking the best areas for light and decor that will compliment your photos, however, this means all of those areas need to be de-cluttered and counters cleared prior to your session. Just remember - anything you leave in the background will be part of your portraits foerever!

These are only a few things that go into styling your session. I love working with my clients ahead of time to plan even the smallest details, so let’s chat and create some memories!
