What Questions Should You Ask Your Richmond Hill Newborn Photographer?

If you live in the Richmond Hill, Savannah, Brunswick or Hinesville areas, chances are you’ll be researching a lot of newborn photographers during your pregnancy. There are a lot of things to take into account from style, to distance, to offerings, but one of the things we rarely get asked about is SAFETY. Safety for your newborn is one of those things you don’t want to cut corners on when hiring a profressional newborn photographer. This is a big moment in your life and choosing the right newborn photographer is a big deal, so here are 10 friendly questions to make sure they're the perfect fit and will prioritize your baby’s safety first!

  1. Safety First: Are you safety trained to handle newborns?

    • Always look for pro-level baby whisperer status!

  2. Pose Prodigy: How do you ensure safe poses, like keeping a watchful eye and hand on baby's head or inside props? Additionally, are these props meant for newborn photography and are safe for baby to be in?

  3. Experience Matters: How many years have you been capturing those adorable squishy moments with newborns?

  4. Clean and Fresh: Do you regularly clean your fabrics and props?

    • We want everything baby touches to be as clean as a whistle!

  5. Toasty Warm: Is your studio cozy and warm?

    • Newborns love the warmth, so making sure they’re nice and snug as a bug in a rug is important!

  6. Breastfeeding Zone: Do you have a spot for me to breastfeed or pump?

    • Your photographer should always make sure that both mom and baby are comfortable.

  7. Chemical-Free Zone: Are there any harsh chemicals used to clean the props and fabrics baby will be touching?

  8. Clean Hands: How do you ensure your hands are clean when handling the baby?

    • This speaks for itself, especially since babies often put their fingers in their mouths and eyes.

  9. Sick Day Policy: What's the process if you or someone around you is feeling under the weather?

  10. Portfolio Peek: Can I see some examples of your previous newborn sessions?

    • Let's make sure your style matches mine so you love you portraits!

Other Things To Look Out For!

Not part of my safety tips, but something I believe in as a mom myself. You should always book newborn portraits with a professional. The biggest sign of that is the photographer has a website, a significant amount of newborn work in their portfolio, and has at least a couple good reviews on Google. You always want someone who can both handle their equipment with ease and your newest addition! Although a lot of newborn photographers travel, you can still ask to see some props and plan your session even if they don’t have a dedicated studio space. Newborns are typically shot between 6-21 days (depending on photographer) and so that tiny bit of time goes really quick, which is why I always encourage moms to research and book by the beginning of their third trimester so it is not overwhelming and frantic after baby is born.

If you have any questions about myself and my studio, as always, please feel free to reach out!
